Dr. Vladimir Alexeyenko provides IV vitamin therapy for patients at Restorative Medicine: IV Therapy in New York City. In this video, Dr. Alexeyenko, discusses the IV process and how much time an IV infusion requires.
Q: How long does an IV Vitamin Therapy treatment take on average?
A: There are a couple of scenarios we can talk about. On average, a typical situation, an average drip, I put it this way; IV drips in the winter they're a little bit different from the IV treatments during the summertime. During summertime, you can operate with pretty much any size of IV bags. You can use typical saline solution up to one, two liters size, providing that the person had been sweating a lot.
You already know that the patient is a little bit dehydrated so that it can lower their fluid levels. You still remind them that it would be a good idea to use a restroom before they go outside. In the winter you cannot, you don't have this kind of luxury. You have to operate with small size IV bags. As a result, if you're using a 250cc of a saline solution, or if you need the correct mix of electrolyzed called the Raider solution, we don't have a choice but to use the 250cc IV bag.
The procedure takes about 23, 24 minutes, providing that we are using 23 gauge needle. We avoid using small size needle because it will prolong the process. I don't even know how much longer will it take to complete protocol with a needle that size. We try to avoid the big size needle. One thing would be the discomfort when you insert the needle. Another idea would sometimes be you, not necessarily, you see spots of the IV fluids or even blood on the sheet, but we would instead stick with the conventional 23 gauge. Yes, the protocol takes about 23 up to 25 minutes, providing a certain amount of time for each step of the procedure.
